PORT ROYAL DOCKING PLOT : POST 1

At the university, Halloween was second only to April Fools' Day for people playing pranks on each other, so I woke up on Halloween morning ready to be on my guard. I figured whatever the station had in mind for us (if anything) it wasn't likely to be something I'd find funny, and I wanted to be ready for it, whatever it was.

It hadn't occurred to me that what the station had in store for us wouldn't be something that occurred on board. I hadn't expected the station docking announcement to play, and I sure as hell hadn't expected the world to dissolve around me when I was halfway to the hub to see what was up. I'd never transported before-- it had always been my choice, before, and I'd never planned on going anywhere the other guy might make a mess if I could help it-- but I had just enough time to figure out what the lurching feeling in my stomach probably signified before the station walls vanished.

When I blinked away the sun glare I found myself staring out a window at a bustling city full of people dressed like they were definitely not from 2012. "Well, this is... interesting," I said, turning around to the roomful of Proserpinians who'd apparently been selected to join me on my little day trip.

[Halloween docking plot is open, and this is gathering post style. Tag in, get your character dressed for some 1700s style adventuring, and see the mod post for more info!]

"Yeah, why?" Jo was tying her hair into a knot as she asked. "I'm not sure acting like a pirate would be a great idea around here."

She turned around and presented Abed with her back. "Do me up, tight on top, loose at the bottom."

Hey, anyone can pull laces, just not the ones at your own back.

Abed has no problem tying her laces for her. He's never tied a real corset before, just a mock one or two for various performances, but he does it as if he'd always done it, starting with the top laces - tight, as she asked - before he moves on to the bottom laces, much looser.

"Because we're in the movies. I just saw two of the characters walk down the street," he explains, but he doesn't say their names, because he doubts that Jo Harvelle knows their names. They're tertiary characters at best, after all.

"Really?" Hey, the last group went to Narnia... why not.

"I am so in need of some knives. Definitely have to swing by the blacksmith shop." Her grin was huge. Hey, she was a red blooded girl. Men ogled all the time.

They didn't know a timeframe yet. "The guys you saw... living or undead?"

Jo smiled a thanks at Abed and wiggled about, checking movement and efficiency. Not too bad.

"It's daylight," Abed points out, watching her wiggle and not, in fact, ogling at all. He isn't exactly a red-blooded boy, although he understands what she means about the blacksmith. Difficult not to, with that smile on her face. "No moonlight to tell by, but they were Navy, anyway. I think we might be in Port Royal. If we're going to see any of the cursed crew, it'll be an attack by night."

But then he adds, to make sure she isn't going to go and... well, ruin William for Elizabeth is one way to put it, "It's probably best not to disturb the events of the movies."

And then only he thinks to check his communicator, and yes, here's a message, a picture. "We might be here in time for that attack."

"I won't break Will Turner. I'm not even his type. But there's nothing wrong with window shopping."

She knew Ms. Swann at this point came across as a polite and demure thing. Not something Jo could pull off for long even if she wanted to.

"I wouldn't mind checking out the Navy's finest, either. Norrington was looking good. Unfortunately, he isn't all scruffed up yet." Jo put her fists to her hips. "Abed, you may be used to everything around you being from movies or books and crap. I won't ruin the plot or shout spoilers, but I plan on enjoying being tossed into a damn good movie. And that includes enjoying every ounce of the scenery. Because before this is over there's going to be blood and screaming and explosions. Just because that's what happens when we go on these little trips."

"I thought there would be blood and screaming and explosions because we're in a pirate movie," Abed says, and means it, because there was no blood and screaming and explosions in Narnia or in Venice. It isn't what happens, it's what happens in pirate movies. At least, if they got thrown in at an interesting time.

At an opportune moment, one could even say.
