PORT ROYAL DOCKING PLOT : POST 1

At the university, Halloween was second only to April Fools' Day for people playing pranks on each other, so I woke up on Halloween morning ready to be on my guard. I figured whatever the station had in mind for us (if anything) it wasn't likely to be something I'd find funny, and I wanted to be ready for it, whatever it was.

It hadn't occurred to me that what the station had in store for us wouldn't be something that occurred on board. I hadn't expected the station docking announcement to play, and I sure as hell hadn't expected the world to dissolve around me when I was halfway to the hub to see what was up. I'd never transported before-- it had always been my choice, before, and I'd never planned on going anywhere the other guy might make a mess if I could help it-- but I had just enough time to figure out what the lurching feeling in my stomach probably signified before the station walls vanished.

When I blinked away the sun glare I found myself staring out a window at a bustling city full of people dressed like they were definitely not from 2012. "Well, this is... interesting," I said, turning around to the roomful of Proserpinians who'd apparently been selected to join me on my little day trip.

[Halloween docking plot is open, and this is gathering post style. Tag in, get your character dressed for some 1700s style adventuring, and see the mod post for more info!]

If the girl did not possess her own sense, at least she took instruction. Or at least Violet presumed until the girl opened her mouth again to talk about knives of all things.

"No indeed," she agreed. Lady would not be the word she would use to describe her, but Violet was having difficulty finding just what word might suit.

"I believe I can manage quite well, but I will need your assistance in a moment," replied Violet. There were enough old paintings around Downton to give her some idea of how she might dress, and it did not take her much time to put the relevant articles together.

"Of course. Happy to help." Jo shrugged. She knew there was a reason for ladies maids with the well to do clothes. Hell, with anything that laced up the back.

Jo was a deft hand with a knot. Although, it was usually around wrists, but clothing would do.

Violet disappeared behind a dressing screen and after a moment or two she called out, "Josephine, your assistance, my dear." Her impatient tone suggested that Jo was in fact already late in offering her assistance with the relatively tame laces of the older woman's garments.

Jo moved to quickly help Mrs. Crawley with her lacing.

The world was certainly easier once zippers were invented.

"Actually, it's Joanna," Jo absently pointed out, even though she had the impression the older woman didn't particularly care.

"It looks pretty rough and tumble out there. You may want to have one of the guys as an escort," Jo knew Lady Grantham had been planet-side before. But usually there was someone with her. This place, if Abed was right, was definitely a bit rough.

"It would be quite undignified of me to go gadding about in any event," Lady Grantham replied stiffly. Although a woman her age was hardly an object of scrutiny walking about alone. Joanna on the other hand, was precisely the type to draw a good deal of attention. There was little sense in telling her so, however. At least she had not decided to dress like a man.
